About Us - Academic Health Science Networks

The creation of Academic Health Science Networks were announced in December 2011 in the government’s Innovation, Health and Wealth report, as a way to ‘align education, clinical research, informatics, innovation, training and education, and healthcare delivery’ at a local level.

AHSNs have four core objectives:

  • Focus on the needs of patients and local populations
  • Speed up adoption of innovation into practice to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience
  • Build a culture of partnership and collaboration
  • Create wealth through co-development, testing, evaluation and early adoption and spread of new products and services

There are 15 AHSNs across England. The Health Innovation Network was designated as the AHSN for South London in May 2013.
